Assuming you haven’t been living on the moon for the last thirty-plus years—and have good taste in movies—you know who Ferris Bueller is. The character, played by Matthew Broderick in the 1986 film “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, is a source of eternally wise quotes.
Ferris’ nuggets of wisdom cover government:
“I’m not European. I don’t plan on being European. So, who gives a crap if they’re socialists? They could be fascist anarchists. It still doesn’t change the fact that I don’t own a car.”
“You’re not dying. You just can’t think of anything good to do.”
And, of course, the precious nature of time:
“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
The value of time isn’t apparent to just Ferris Bueller. Any business trying to stay ahead of its competition in an intensely competitive and global market knows just how valuable time is.
Time spent inefficiently is wasted time, and wasted time is wasted opportunity. Companies and shipping departments waste time, money, and opportunity by spending hours rate-shopping less-than-truckload (LTL) carriers, entering in redundant shipping information easily provided by a client ERP, calling carriers, tracking shipments, auditing invoices, filing claims, creating shipping reports, and entering in shipping cost information into their accounting platform.
It’s a lot.
And when shipping departments spend too much time on activities that could be easily simplified, they leave real money on the table.
That doesn’t need to be the case.
By partnering with Flat World Supply Chain, your shipping department can take the guesswork out of finding the most competitive LTL rates. Our software easily compares each shipment and lets shipping managers review the best mode and carrier options. The result is a more efficient and effective approach to logistics, supply chain, and transportation management that will make your company more competitive in 2019.
But Flat World Supply Chain isn’t just selling software.
Your shipping department also gets the expertise and experience of a team that has spent literally decades in supply chain management.
(It’s true, and if you’re lucky, you too could find yourself working for decades in an industry and field you love—just like the team at the Flat World Holdings family of companies.)
Ferris Bueller was right. Life does move pretty fast, and the end of one year and the beginning of another is a great time to think about…well, time—and how we use it.
This year your shipping department should spend less time rate-shopping LTL carriers and more time focusing on how you can turn your supply chain into the strategic advantage that will separate your business from the competition.
And one great place to start is by partnering with Flat World Supply Chain and the Flat World family of companies to make your shipping department the most efficient and effective in your industry.
(PS: We wish you a safe and Happy New Year, from the entire team at Flat World Holdings!)
(PPS: If you are one of the very few people who haven’t seen Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and have no idea what this blog is talking about, make 2019 the year you join the rest of civilized society and watch the movie. We’re pretty sure it’s on Netflix.)
